Bocachica tour: Beaches and Fortifications

Cartagena de Indias enchants by its islands and in Tierra Bomba, Bocachica offers a new tourist plan that includes the visit to the forts, walk among tunnels of mangroves and a time of recreation to the shore of the beach.

The tour started at the "Muelle de la Bodeguita" (Bodeguita Dock) . From there I left for a 25-minute trip on the Bay, until I reached the edge of the main port of Bocachica. I received two tour guides from the island, who know the story from beginning to end.

Visit to the Forts

This tour allowed me to visit the Angel San Rafael Battery. To get there, I made a 10-minute walk while observing a few meters, some exits from the underground tunnel that used to connect with Santa Bárbara Battery, collapsed by the battle between Englishmen and natives. This Battery is located at the highest point of the island, the Cerro del Horno, known as La Popa. Without a doubt, the best place to appreciate the island and the Bay of Cartagena. In the shape of a crescent and with free entrance, in 25 minutes I met two curtains of guns, a dry well and the entrance of the tunnel of 600 meters. 20 minutes of walking, I was taken to the Fort of San Fernando, whose figure resembles a horseshoe. Without any cost I registered and I entered to know his two bastions - King and King. 31 vaults, some double wall; Nine surveillance posts, each with a different usage and history; A damp pit and sloping merlons, I appreciated in this important place of the history of Cartagena. Walk through the mangroves

As I approached the mangrove dock, to the right of Fort San Fernando, I took my camera and started a boat trip with a tour guide. I chose the shortest of the two tours, the 30-minute ride. During the journey appreciated diversity of animal species. The obligatory stop was made in a typical candy station, where I tasted the cherry with coconut, the favorite of the visitors.
If you want to know more about the mangroves.

Beach bath The Tour Bocachica I finished it at the edge of the beach, tasting a fried mojarra with crispy patacones. The attractions of this island and the friendliness of the natives left me wanting to return. Definitely a new plan to schedule. Recommended!

To take into account To visit the place, it is key to go with comfortable clothes, hydration, hat or cap, sunglasses, sunscreen and an enthusiastic attitude.
