“My next adventure: Living in Cartagena”

Since last month, the Danish Alexander Bjerregaard, who six months ago decided to leave his native Copenhagen to visit Colombia, is in the city. At his arrival (after visiting Cali), what he first came to perceive was the warmth of the people, whom he considers kind, disinterested and sociable. “The people from Cartagena have treated me very well. They are talkative, helpful, and friendly. And there are also very beautiful girls. This has been one of my best trips”.

After spending two weeks of his stay, he knew that he did not want to travel anymore and realized that he wanted to stay at least a month in Cartagena. He fell in love with the city’s lifestyle and he rented a room in an apartment. The only thing going through his mind was that in this city he could be relaxed, enjoy life, go to the beach, and take advantage of the free time doing positive things for the city, such as looking for several social foundations and do some volunteer work. That is how he found in Tierrabomba Island the Fundación “Amigos del Mar” (Friends of the Sea Foundation), a place where he feels very well and teaches English to the kids. “I think it is a really nice cause, because it makes lots of children happy, teaching them various languages and arts with a group of volunteers”.

On the same way, he is also fascinated with the colonial style architecture of the Historical Center, and says that the city is full of life, specially on its squares, and on the neighborhood he lives, San Diego. “The architecture of the old city, where I am staying, is really impressive. Its walls and the colonial style of its streets take me back to past centuries. The carriages, the musicians, and the living statues that are scattered along the roads, give life to this city”.

For all those who have dreams, “let’s go and get them”, concludes Alexander, excited and happy to go back to Denmark to pick up his bags and return to Cartagena and make a new life in this gorgeous city.
