Cholón: An earthly paradise near Cartagena de Indias

"I'd rather have a passport full of stamps, than a house full of things." It's a phrase I found once on Facebook, and since then, I fell in love. I felt identified. Traveling, not only makes us change location, through certain means of transportation but physically and spiritually, it changes your way of perceiving life. With fewer worries and more ambitions to fill the soul with experiences. From an exquisite tasting of culture and traditions foreign to our own, that forge our intellect and comfort our spirit.

Today, I share a fascinating experience that both tourists and Cartagena, enjoy doing. Different ways to arrive. By car via Barú or by boat leaving one of the marinas of the city. All Sea, The Wharf of the Bodeguita, Naval Wharf or The Navy of Manga, are the most representative wharves of the city, where the captains of the marine, collect their clients to make life one of the best experiences on the sea.

And our adventure to the Island of Cholon begins

We have armed the combo of friends. It is time to contact the supplier of boats, sailboats or speedboats to find our best option and not have setbacks along the way. Confirmed our boat, fill the fridge of the boat with water, beers, wine, juice and even champagne, we do very well with the sun and the sea. They start engines, and there we go, Cholón awaits us! .

Immediately we saw Tierrabomba and its row of towns: Tierrabomba, Caño del Oro, Puerto de Las Canoas, and Bocachica. In this last town, we contemplate the splendor of the colonial architecture, and we appreciate the beauty of the Fort San Fernando de Bocachica, the Battery San José de Bocachica and the Archangel San Rafael, built in the colonial era for military protection.

Large vessels, sailboats, fishermen in their canoes, refreshing breeze and water splashing our faces, made this tour more pleasant. Forty-five minutes later we arrived at our destination.

We arrived in Cholón!

Cholón is surrounded by a beautiful mangrove ecosystem, which protects the crystalline waters. The Ensenada de Cholón is surrounded by beautiful blue waters that receive a good amount of sun throughout the year, so it is so famous among people who want a place to have an enjoyable beach vacation. The beaches, include quieter places where you can only sit and sunbathe, and others where you can immerse yourself to discover that universe of coral underwater.

Cholón has channels through the mangrove, a natural adventure. A few meters away from the cove, the largest barrier reef in Colombia begins, which makes it attractive to foreigners, who enjoy diving, snorkeling, and other water sports.

La Playita de Cholón in located a few minutes from Isleta Azul (one of the islets that make up the Rosario Islands). Perhaps the most famous islets and favorite of Cartagena and tourists who arrive on yachts, boats, and sailboats, to ride without leaving the sea and to admire the sunset that prevails in the middle of the vegetation, and the nature that surrounds this island. Beautiful palm trees and dry palm huts form a beautiful landscape on this beach, whose beauty lies in its calm and shallow waters of blue and white sands.

Do not worry if you feel the waves crash hard on your boat; they are saying goodbye to you with joy and enthusiasm, longing to see you again on your next dream trip.
