This is the main gate of the historic center of Cartagena de Indias and the original entrance to the fortified city. It is located between Plaza Independencia and the Cars. The name "Puerta del Reloj" responds to the clock which was crowned in the early eighteenth century. While the appellation of Boca del Puente is because during the colonial era, rose to his feet a drawbridge over the San Anastasio pipe, which connected the walled city to the ancient quarter of Gethsemane. Besides the bridge served as defense of the city, as if the enemy attack, this was raised to prevent access of pirates and buccaneers.
