It gets its name from the neighboring convent of Santa Clara de Asis (now Hotel Santa Clara). Built to defend the premises of the enemy that came from the North Sea and also served as a protective shield against the ravages of the sea. The initial construction was done by Cristóbal de Roda (1617 - 1630) and Francisco de Murga (1625-1630).
