The last month of the year begins with the VIII Festival Voces del Jazz y del Caribe, which will pay tribute to the champeta and its cultists. It will take place from December the 1st to the 5th.
The Festival opened a call for its band contest, which invites to register and check the regulations on the official page of the event
www.vocesdeljazz.com until October the 11th. Registered groups compete for cash prizes that will award the top three places for Best Jazz Band , Best Jazz Arrangement or Composition, and Best Soloist (first and second place).
The Festival is set at the Caribe Plaza Shopping Center and sites in the Historical Center of Cartagena.
Tribute to the champeta
The VIII Festival Voces del Jazz y del Caribe will pay tribute to the champeta and its cultists this year. The organization has chosen representative songs on which the bands that attend will be able to choose one and make arrangements for it in order to participate in the contest in the category for the ‘Best jazz arrangement or composition in homage to the champeta’.
Methodology
Fifteen bands participate in the festival, which go through a knockout stage in order to select the first five and go on to the grand final. On the last night the bands compete for cash prizes. Likewise, at the closing ceremony the invited artists appears to give a great closing to the event.
Academic day
The event has an academic day in which the musicians of the city can participate at no cost. The selected bands will be known on October 15. The knockout rounds will take place on December 2 and 3 and the grand finale will be on December 4. Closing is December 5.
The festival seeks to bring young people closer to jazz and the richness that this genre has in the fusion with Colombian, Caribbean and worldwide music, as well as highlighting new talents in jazz representative of our country and help turn the city into a natural setting for the projection of the figures of Colombian and Latin American jazz.
