Religious Festivities in Cartagena: "Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria"

From January 21st to February the 3rd , the festivities of the Virgen de la Candelaria begin. A few days where the faith and devotion of the Carthaginians invades the city with demonstrations, which not only become religious but also share ludic parties, such as horseback riding, orchestras, popular festivals such as “Festival del Frito”, “Festival del Pastel”, among others.

On january 21st the novenas of the virgin begin, and local and foreign pilgrimage from the early hours of the morning to the Candelaria Cloister on the hill of Popa, the only hill that exists in the city, to pray rosaries, listen the Eucharist, have breakfast and revel in the traditions of the city. Even people pay pledges they have offered to the Holy Patroness of Cartagena for the kindness they have received from her.

One particular thing is that many athletes use this hill to train and also a lot of people go there to get the breathtaking view of the city since this is the only and highest place that Cartagena has.
