The Fauna and Flora of the National Aviary of Colombia

WALKING TOUR WITH STOPS AT POINTS OF INTEREST EXPLORE THE TERRITORY OF BIRDS

In this ecological park you will experience three ecosystems: wet jungle, coastal beach and desert and two wetland areas: The lake of pisingos and another lake which will provide the opportunity to view many migratory birds. VISIT THE WILD FOREST In an immersion aviary you will be captivated by the striking splendor of a waterfall, the beautiful stream and lush vegetation accompanied by 36 wild bird species. In particular, enjoy seeing the Arpía Eagle, able to carry 20 kilos and is recognized as the most powerful raptor in the country, with your own eyes, At the other extreme, you’ll be watching for one of the smallest birds of the world, the Tangaras. Colombia is clearly a world leader of avifauna diversity.

COASTAL

This coastal ecosystem spans the transition from a terrestrial to a marine habitat. In this exhibition, the trees are mostly mangroves, where they provide shelter to about 50 species of birds, becoming an aviary of broad biological diversity. Some of the birds that attract attention of visitors are the always popular flamingos. By remaining always united, they are considered experts in protection and care of their young.

DESERT

Cactus, arid lands, stony and dry palm trunks, all set the natural habitat of the 43 species in radial and immersion aviaries. Some of the avifauna that captivates the attention of visitors to the aviary, are the Alcaravanes, famous for being experts in camouflage and the Cóndor de los Andes, a majestic bird with the largest wingspan of the country -3 meters - and the king of the place, King of Gallinazos, a title that is granted because at the time of feeding, the other Gallinazos give way.

SPECIAL ENVIRONMENTS Lake of Piscingos and Lake of Migratory Birds In this exhibition Pisingos make their homes. At the edge of the lake you can see how they nest among the leaves or take in the sun and dry their wings. The migratory bird lake is in a special open exhibition. The most striking species are the Chavarri and Duck Carter, the most common species of migration to the north of the country, which has decided to stay in place for food.
