360° view from the Camellón de los Martires

Cartagena de Indias has privileged corners that allow access to different historical places that are quite attractive for both, locals and tourists. “El Camellón de los Mártires” is a well-known location that exhibits the busts of creole independence heroes and different monuments that you cannot miss when you visit Cartagena.

The busts sculpted in in white marble, as well as the two fountains and a large monument named Noli me Tagere, are the main attractions of the “Camellón”. The details you can appreciate in these sculptures are of the greatest dedication, and they embellish this great corridor that connects the Historical Center with Getsemaní, the bohemian and colorful neighborhood of Cartagena.Camellon de los Mártires In front of the “Camellón” stands the famous “Torre del Reloj”, considered one of the most beautiful public clocks in the world. It is the main entrance to the marvelous Historical Center of Cartagena. Its 30 meters high makes it visible from the distance and it is, undoubtedly, one of the most representative monuments of the city.

At the other end you can find the old theaters Cartagena, Colón and Calamarí, three places in which the people of Cartagena used to gather to enjoy film screenings with relatives or friends. Nowadays these theaters are under a process of reconstruction in order to provide a larger hotel offer to the visitors of this historic and magical city.

The “Camellón” is flanked on one side by the “Parque Centenario”, with its diverse fauna, and, on the other by the “Muelle de los Pegasos”, with the sculptures of these two mythological beings that look towards the “Bahía de las Ánimas”. On that same side you can find the Convention Center of Cartagena and the “Patio de Banderas”, which makes of this place a strategic meeting point. Within the 360° vision that allows the “Camellón”, we can also observe the “Plaza Cervantes” with one of the flagship monuments of Cartagena, the sculpture in tribute to “don Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra”. An expression of passion towards the written art and the outstanding stories made by the greatest symbol of Spanish literature.Monumento-Miguel-de-Cervantes-Saavedra Every monument that can be seen around the “Camellón” is worth to be photographed. Without any doubt my favorite one is “Los Pegasos”, those fabulous equines that seem to start the flight from the bay to get lost in the immensity of the beautiful sky and the desired sea of Cartagena.

Winds coming from all directions; sail and luxury boats docked at the edge of the bay; leafy trees in the park; stories about a rebel nation behind every bust; memories of amusement that can be breathed nearby the theaters; and, to make it even better, all of the charms you get to discover once you go through the colossal “Torre del Reloj”, embraced by the resistant old walls. These are the reasons why you won’t be able to find a better 360° view in Cartagena. But remember, this is not the only place to visit, because Cartagena, a favorite of so many tourists, offers countless natural viewpoints from where you can delight with sunrises, sunsets, and impressive panoramic shots of the Historical Center and the endless sea.Muelle-de-los-Pegasos en Cartagena
