Cartagena and beyond: Easter programming in Mompox

The "Land of God", Mompox, is preparing for its traditional Easter celebrations with an agenda of Sacred events. This tradition has more than three hundred years of history.

It is a historic city, 6 hours by bus from Cartagena de Indias, located in the department of Bolívar, on the western margin of one of the arms of the Magdalena River.

April the 11th

Painful Thursday

11:00 p.m. Church of San Francisco. Act: Stealing the pass.

12:00 a.m. Act: Procession of the "Paso Robao or Despedimento". Start: Calle Real del Medio, Callejón de los Cobos.

Painful Friday

4:00 a.m. (Church event) Iglesia Santo Domingo, Solemne Eucaristía – Dismissal Sermon. The procession continues until it reaches the Church of San Francisco.

6:00 p.m. Church of San Francisco, Holy Eucharist and pious exercise of the saint via crucis.

7:00 p.m. Procession of the Meeting. Saint via crucis. Holy Thursday

12:00 p.m. Homage of the Trumpeter Nazarenes and Campaneros to the Deceased Nazarenes. Start of the stations of the Nazarenes by the different temples of the city in the exercise of their commands.

3:00 p.m. Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción. Solemn Eucharist "Supper of the Lord and washing of the feet". Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

4:00 p.m. Bolívar Symphony Orchestra Concert.

Holy Saturday

1:00 a.m. Iglesia de San Francisco to the Basilica of the Santísimo Cristo de los Milagros de Mompox. Rosario de la Aurora, Solemn Procession and Sermon of the Virgen de la Soledad.

7:00 p.m. Iglesia de San Francisco. Serenade the Lord in the Holy Sepulcher. The passage between the death and the resurrection of Jesus is remembered. It is a day of mourning and sadness because we do not have Jesus among us.

9:00 p.m. Iglesia de la Inamculada Concepción. Solemn Easter Vigil, Blessing of Fire, Procession with the Paschal Candle, Celebration of the Word.
