Attractions in Cartagena de Indias: How much is the admission worth? What are their working times?

Keep in mind that the entrance to some of these places is free, but others have different prices that it is good to know before arriving. Fortificaciones de Bocachica* (Bocachica Fortifications)

*Even though the entrance to the Fortifications is free, in order to reach them, you must take a boat at the Tourist Wharf of La Bodeguita, which can charge you approximately 10.000 COP per trip (the price is previously negotiated with each operator). Museo Precolombino de la Paz (Pre-Columbian Peace Museum)

Tours and ecological activities in the Ciénagas de la Virgen and Juan Polo

Aviario Nacional de Colombia (Colombia’s National Aviary)

Oceanario Islas del Rosario (Islas del Rosario Aquarium)*

Schedule: (Guided tour of approximately 45 minutes with dolphins and sharks shows): Open everyday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Admission prices:
  • Adults: 30.000 COP.
  • Children, under 12 years old: 25.000 COP.
*To get to the Oceanarium, you usually pay between 40.000 and 60.000 COP for a one day tour in the Rosario Islands. Most of these visit the aquarium for at least one hour. They leave between 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. Besides, you must pay the Port Exit Tax which is worth 17.000 COP.

** The activity of swimming with the dolphins and taking pictures, for a space of 5 minutes, has an additional value of 50.000 COP.

Parque Espíritu del Manglar (Spirit of the Mangrove Park)

Address: Avenida Pedro de Heredia, Chambacú sector, diagonal to the Intelligent Building and to the station "Chambacú" of Transcaribe. 10 minutes away from the Historical Center.

Horse-Drawn Car Tour

Address: You can usually spot these cars in the Historical Center. There are pick up places around Plaza de Los Coches, Parque de Bolívar and Parque de la Marina.

Schedule: Open everyday from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Experiences’ fees (negotiable rates):
  • 25 minutes tour: 60.000 COP.
  • 35 minutes tour: 80.000 COP.
  • 60 minutes tour: 140.000 COP.

“Chiva” bus Tour*

Address: These colorful vehicles are located between the Parque Centenario and the Camellón de los Mártires, as well as around the Bocagrande area.

Schedule: They operate everyday from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Admission prices (the tour lasts 4 hours. It is guide by an entertainer and it includes a welcome cocktail. A minimum of 10 people is required):
  • *With a visit to the Castillo de San Felipe included: 58.000 COP.

CitySightSeeing Cartagena*

*It's a tour on a 2-story bus with an open roof. You can go up and down as many times as you want with the same ticket, that serves you for a period of two days. It includes a guided walk through the Historical Center, and a translation system in 6 languages.

Yacht ride through the bay at sunset*

Schedule: Wednesday to Sunday. Between September and January: Boarding at 4:45 p.m., and sailing at 5:00 p.m. Between February and August: Boarding at 5:15 p.m. and sailing at 5:30.

Tour prices:

Estimated value of the route depending on the operator (90 minutes approximately): between 60.000 and 90.000 COP.

A day on Islas del Rosario

In Cartagena, different operators offer this type of routes aboard comfortable and modern boats.

Schedule (approximate): Departure from the port at 9:00 a.m. Arrival at the Oceanarium at 10:30 a.m. Lunch at Playa Blanca around 12:30 p.m. Departure back to Cartagena at 3:00 p.m.

Experience fee:

17.000 COP of tax. 50.000 COP (approximate) for a boat round trip, with lunch in Playa Blanca included. 30.000 COP, either for the entrance to the Oceanarium, or for snorkeling around it (this is optional). If you do not take one of these two options, you can stay in the surroundings of one of the islands for one hour, which is the time that the activities take.

Admission prices for a day in the Isla del Encanto Hotel

Several hotels and tourist agencies in the city offer this type of plans that generally include transport, lunch, snacks, and the possibility to use some hotel spaces and services.
